The International Center for Consciousness Studies announces a competition for the Dennett Prize 2026, an annual prize that is awarded to an outstanding scholar whose research has significantly advanced the understanding of the brain and consciousness.
Nominations for the prize must be submitted using the application form, accompanied by a brief (one page) explanation of the candidate’s contribution to the brain and consciousness research, a curriculum vitae and a selected publication list. If the nominator wishes to draw attention to a particular example of the candidate’s work, available in digital form, it can be attached (maximum three pieces). Self-nomination is allowed.
The prize consists of a monetary award of USD 10 000. The award ceremony will take place at the annual ICCS conference, where recipient will be invited to give a Dennett Lecture (travel and accommodation expenses will be covered).
The winner will be chosen by a vote of the Dennett Prize Committee. The Committee consists of Susan Dennett, Keith Frankish, Giorgio Vallortigara, Dmitry Volkov, and Andy Clark, the winner of the inaugural Dennett Prize.
Nominations must be received by 15 December 2025 via the application form. Decisions will be made by 15 January 2026. The decision will be published on the ICCS website, hardproblem.it. Questions regarding the Dennett Prize should be addressed to info@hardproblem.it.
